CIP Affordable Housing is an investment in rebuilding community wealth, well-being, memory, and justice. Community-owned and operated properties ensure tenants’ rights and stabilize rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods that continue to be impacted by red-lining and governmental policies that long have prohibited wealth creation for black and brown communities. Our strategy helps creates equitable pathways for families who have had a history of intentional divestment and lack of access to become homeowners, should they so desire.
We are building a pathway to mentor and develop entrepreneurs of color. Through our initiative, the Femme Collective, we support black and brown women-owned businesses that focus on collective wealth-building strategies that help each business scale up and prosper while providing equitable employment opportunities for employees such as a living wage, benefits, shared work environments, and leadership development opportunities.
We believe those living in and of the community are the experts in how to best transform their quality of life. As we create a vision for East Durham, we are also building a collective understanding of who holds the power and how to shift that balance of power to the hands of local residents. Especially those that have been directly impacted by systemic racism and inequality. We identify and equip directly impacted members of our community with the knowledge and skills required to be effective organizers and leaders on our community and beyond.
